Post Graduate Diploma in Aviation Mangement

Mission:

To provide the aviation industry with professionals that can develop the operational knowledge involved   in   airline   business   operations   for   management   of   aviation   projects  with commercial undertone; understand the dynamics of alternative transportation systems and the management of fares and interline systems

Admission Standards:

The Candidates must be a bachelor’s degree holder or Higher National Diploma (HND) holder from a recognized academic institution or an NCAT Diploma with a professional license and two years of work experience.

Process for evaluating students for admission

  •            Students apply for the program and submit the form to the academic office
  •            The academic office sends the application forms along with applicant’s documents to  the Aviation Management School for verification
  •          The Aviation Management School Admission Committee screens the application and the provided documents
  •        Names of qualified applicants are compiled and sent to the academic office by the Dean of the Aviation Management School.
  •         Admission letters are offered to the qualified candidates
  • Synthesize the implications of the high operational costs involved in air transportation as well as the fierce competitive environment that has led air transport managers to seek permanent improvements in their management practices.
  • Addresses the complex challenges facing Maintenance Repair Organisations (MROs) in a global air transport market.
  • Address the significance of the Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) in ensuring smooth flow of information for safety, regularity, and efficiency of international air transport as noted in Annex 15 of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Convention.
  • Reinforce the grounded theory that safe flight relies not only on aircraft technology but also on the full cooperation of flight crews, ground staff, and maintenance personnel, including air transport users.
  • Appreciate that most aviation accidents result from human error or mechanical failure, and pinpoint the position of research that up to two-thirds of aircraft accidents are caused by human error.
  • Improve students’ understanding of the theoretical economic principles used in the various business models as applicable to air transportation systems.
  • Develop critical business thinking underpinning the product features as deployed by global air transport managers.
  • Appreciate the important contributions of air transport as a major impetus to the economic growth of a nation.
  • Understand the rationale why the aviation sector globally is spending increasing sums of money on programs designed to improve the effectiveness of their workforce by adopting innovative selection, training, and retention methods.

Minimum Requirement

For any student to qualify for the PGD, he/she must satisfy the following conditions:

  1. Each student must complete all the Thirty-Six (36) Credit Units (CU) consisting of core (30 CU) and elective (6 CU)
  2. Should attain up to 80% attendance.

3. Should effectively participate in the tutorial and submit a seminar paper where required.

4. Should take the continuous assessment (course work, test and practical) which must be graded and form part of the assessment.

5. Should undertake a properly supervised and graded project.

6. Should take and pass the end of course examinations.

7. Students that successfully complete the PGD are encouraged to proceed for a Master’s Degree.
