NLNG and NCDMB Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony at NCAT, Hand Over Project Sites to Contractor.
The Rector/Chief Executive of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Ismaila, on Monday, 29 June 2026, received a delegation from the Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for the groundbreaking ceremony of the intervention projects at the College.
The delegation was received at the College Management Boardroom before proceeding to the project sites for the groundbreaking ceremony and the official handover of the sites to the contractor.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Rector/CE expressed appreciation to the leadership of NLNG and NCDMB for considering NCAT worthy of benefiting from the intervention projects.
Dr. Danjuma described the intervention as timely and a welcome development, noting that the College is currently undergoing extensive reforms and expansion. According to him, the projects will significantly enhance the College’s training capacity upon completion.
“The College is currently undergoing a total reform and expansion. In Nigeria, NCAT remains the only institution that trains Air Traffic Controllers. Recently, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) recruited about 300 personnel who will require training at the College before they can be certified as Air Traffic Controllers. Your intervention in the Air Traffic Services and Communication School, particularly the provision of the ATC 3D Simulator, will enable the College to train more Air Traffic Controllers. This intervention is timely and a welcome development.”
The Rector/CE further stated that the aviation industry depends largely on NCAT for the training of skilled aviation professionals, stressing that the continued growth of the industry relies on the College’s ability to deliver quality training.
He also disclosed that the College’s management is planning to establish additional campuses in Abuja and Lagos, while the Federal Government is considering expanding the College to other geopolitical zones to make aviation training more accessible across the country.
Dr. Danjuma also disclosed that the College is planning to introduce full-flight simulator training and escalator training, among other specialised programmes, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand its training capacity and meet the evolving needs of the aviation industry.
He assured the sponsors of the College’s full support throughout the execution of the projects and pledged the institution’s cooperation in ensuring the safety of the contractor and the successful completion of the intervention projects.
Earlier in her remarks, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), Dr. (Mrs) Sophia Horsfall, appreciated the warm reception accorded to the delegation, describing it as her first visit to both NCAT and Zaria.
She explained that NCAT was selected as a beneficiary of the intervention projects because it met the required criteria, describing the College as a valuable national asset and emphasising the importance of sustained collaboration between NLNG and NCAT.
Dr. Sophia further noted that the groundbreaking ceremony marked another significant milestone in NLNG’s intervention programme. She congratulated the College on benefiting from the intervention projects and encouraged continued collaboration between the College and the contractor to ensure their successful and timely completion.
In his remarks, the representative of the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) congratulated NCAT on benefiting from the intervention projects and assured the College that the projects would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
“I congratulate NCAT on benefiting from this intervention project. I want to assure you that the project will be delivered within the stipulated time because we are not an organisation known for abandoning projects.”
During the ceremony, the architectural designs of the intervention projects were formally presented to the Rector/Chief Executive and the contractor, after which the project sites were officially handed over for the commencement of work.
The intervention projects will benefit the Air Traffic Services and Communication School, Aerodrome Safety Engineering School, Aviation Management School, the Department of Transport, and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department, further strengthening NCAT’s capacity to deliver world-class aviation training.
